"Next Universal Design" Lecture for WASEDA University

DENMARK Design delighting 5 senses

Next topic is basic knowledge about Denmark. Let me present the country of Denmark in two sides. The first one side is about an typical characteristic of the Danish.

Let me start Danish data. Their Consume tax is 25%, Income tax is from 60 to 70％ and Turnout is over 86％. Its higher than Japan. So, It makes them be opinionist. If you pay high money, you will say something, "Is it necessity ?" They love discussing and a dialogue against Danish government ,especially over social security, because they are paying it.

The first one side is opinionist. The second one side is about Danish Design.

Denmark in the 1970s might dominate the would trend of interior design. By this time the Danish products was called Scandinavian Design, It was so popular. Let me introduce some products. First of a chair with backrest shaped like ants. This shape achieves the reasonable restitution for rest. It called ants chair. Next example is a lighting looks like a pine-corn. The light is very shining if you see it directly . But this was designed not to see the light source from any angle thanks to its shape. So Danish are very proud of Scandinavian products. and moreover, They love the design. The second one side is a Design enthusiast.

Let me review... The first one side is opinionist. The second one side is a Design enthusiast. People of Denmark has a characteristic to develop a good design with thorough discussion. In Denmark, the background of these temperament has created design conscious following 5 senses. These are the basic knowledge of Denmark.
